Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
West Bengal Sports Minister Arup Biswas has accused the BCCI and the IPL governing body of political motivations in shifting the IPL 2024 playoffs and final matches from Kolkata’s Eden Gardens to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. According to Biswas, the official reason given was the possibility of rain in Kolkata, based on a satellite report. He stated that this satellite report influenced the decision to move the matches to Gujarat.
Biswas pointed out that the satellite which predicted rain in Kolkata failed to detect rainfall at the Narendra Modi Stadium on the day of the matches. He emphasized that the shift of venue was not due to weather concerns but was influenced by political factors. Biswas expressed that this decision deprived Kolkata’s cricket fans of witnessing important matches at their home ground.
This statement from the Sports Minister follows his earlier press conference where he raised similar concerns. He reiterated that the venue change from Eden Gardens to Ahmedabad was driven by considerations beyond weather forecasts and stressed the impact on cricket enthusiasts in Kolkata.
